Physiotherapy

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a treatment method that helps individuals deal with emotional, mental, and behavioral issues through structured conversations with a trained therapist. It aims to improve well-being, resolve psychological problems, and develop healthier coping strategies. Common types include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic therapy.

Dr. Fiona Chan graduated from University of Waterloo with a Bachelors of Honors Science and obtained her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto.

She continued her education and received her acupuncture training from the McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program. She is dedicated in providing patients with evidence-based and patient-centered care with specializing manual techniques such as Thompson® technique and motion palpation institute.

She is also passionate for ergonomics to ensure equipment and workstation setup fit our human body and cognitive abilities. Proper ergonomic design is necessary to prevent repetitive strain injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders, which can develop over time and can lead to long term injuries.

Dr. Chan has worked at multiple corporations and in a variety of environments such as hospitals, automotive manufacturing facilities, cellular phone manufacturing facilities and research centers, to provide ergonomic workshops, workstation consultations and risk assessments.

It is Dr. Chan’s desire to help serve the local community in the area of Markham to enable her patients to maximize their life to its full potential. Irene graduated from Queen’s University with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. She also has a background in Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. She is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

She has treated many different conditions in various hospitals and clinical settings including acute injuries, sports injuries, chronic pain, neurological disorders, stroke, etc. She is motivated to work with patients to set personalized goals and tailor treatments to help them achieve their maximal potential. She utilizes a hands-on approach with a combination of manual therapy, exercise, patient education, and more in her treatments.

Being active and helping others achieve the same is what led her to pursue physiotherapy. She especially enjoys dragon boat and gymnastics out of the many sports in which she participates, and is motivated to help others regain their physical abilities to do what they enjoy.

He then proceeded to obtain his Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Birmingham in the U.K. After graduating, Kan worked in England in areas of orthopedics and geriatric rehabilitation before deciding to come back to Canada.

Kan believes in a holistic approach when it comes to treating his patients. His philosophy involves an active rehabilitation approach which he believes is key to recovery. Shirley has been practicing as a Chiropodist since 1998. She is a member of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.

Shirley did her clinical training at The Michener Institute of Education, The Anne Johnston Health Station, Rouge Valley Health System –Centenary site, and the Toronto General Hospital. Shirley has completed post-graduate training in pharmacology at Michener Institute and is certified to prescribe topical medications and some oral antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs).

After graduating from chiropody, she has gained invaluable experience working in many different clinical environments, such as a family health team, a community health centre, a hospital clinic, and independent private practice.

Shirley has presented lectures and workshops on Diabetes Foot Care, Foot Care in Pregnancy, Screening Methods to Prevent Lower Limb Amputation, Children’s Foot Care and Footwear, Footwear for seniors, Plantar Fasciitis and Footwear, and General Foot Care.
